New Year

It was our first full day back in the office today.

4 Mount Terrace was a hive of activity, for those of you who don’t know the Association Office, in Rawtenstall, has been re-furbished over Christmas. It was a real pleasure to spend the day there working on our plans for the New Year.

I had been planning to go to Kenya today with my brother-in-law who was brought up in Nairobi. Over the last few months, we have been working together collecting spectacles for an eye clinic near Mombasa. During the past week we have both been shocked and saddened to note the deteriorating security situation in the country. On Friday we were told that our trip would have to be cancelled as the Foreign Office had advised against all but essential travel. As you can imagine this is particularity worrying for Vincent as his whole family are living in Nairobi.

We have spoken to the eye clinic who has told us that the need for used spectacles is now greater than ever. We are monitoring the situation closely to see when it will be possible to send our parcel over.
